    International Financial Reporting Standards
for 2025 Increasing importance of reducing
carbon emissions due to mandatory IFRS

  • The need for rapid adaptation of domestic export companies has increased,
driven by the visibility of applying ESG disclosure standards to
major export markets such as the European Union (EU) and others.

In line with this, the Financial Services Commission plans to gradually apply
the ESG disclosure standards of the International Sustainability
Standards Board (ISSB) to listed companies
with assets of over 2 trillion won starting from 2025.

Starting from 2026, mandatory disclosure of corporate
carbon emissions under 'Scope 3' will be required.

  • Mandatory application of the
Carbon Neutrality Basic Law to public institutions

With the implementation of the Carbon Neutrality Basic Law,
the expansion of the public sector market is expected due to the mandatory
reduction of carbon emissions by public institutions.

  • According to the Carbon Neutrality Basic Law implemented on
March 25, 2022, there is a mandatory obligation to reduce
carbon emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to the emissions in 2018.

Central administrative agencies, local governments, provincial education offices,
public institutions, local public corporations and institutions, national universities,
the Bank of Korea, and the Financial Supervisory Service must annually set
greenhouse gas reduction targets, report their performance to relevant committees,
    and implement them.

As of 2021, the "Greenhouse Gas Energy Target Management System for
the Public Sector" included 783 institutions (Ministry of Environment, 2021.08)
